Multi-level Offline Delegation Transfer in Mobile RFID Networks

Mobile RFID

Mobile Radio Frequency Identification (RFID)is a wireless technology that integrates RFID readers into mobile devices, such as a smart phone or a PDA. Such integration has provided much mobility for RFID and has greatly improved its applications because RFID is no longer confined by readers' locations and mobile readers are able to cover wider area. One of the most important applications in recent mobile RFID research is offline delegation. Assume a tag is embedded to a specific material in a supply chain; a back-end server can delegate the tag's access right to a mobile reader during a transaction. The delegated reader and the tag, therefore, are able to do offline mutual authentication. In 2010 Yang proposed an offline delegation protocol for mobile RFID, but his scheme requires heavy computation loads for tags and readers. And its key updating can even cause asynchrony. This paper analyzes the security issues in Yang's offline delegation protocol and provides a more efficient and secured delegation scheme that demands lower computation loads and resists most current network threats.
