A Preliminary Study on the Use of Multiple Narrative Techniques in Visual Art Texts

The narrative point of view is one of the important elements of story composition. When different narrative perspectives are used in a work, the style will change and the degree of brilliance will vary. The multiple narrative approach is to describe the same event from each character's point of view multiple times. Through the narrative, we can see the inner thoughts of each character and understand the invisible network of thoughts behind the events. However, it is relatively rare, but there are still many international masterpieces that use multiple narrative techniques and achieve good results, which will be a model for us to follow. The purpose of this research is to investigate the purpose of using multiple narrative techniques in works and the cautions for their application. The study is based on works that use multiple narrative techniques in visual arts, and through literature and five case studies, it helps to understand how the narrative techniques are applied. The purpose and effect are as follows: (1) Inconsistent states are caused by conflicting statements in multiple narratives. (2) Narrate the viewpoints of different characters to interpret the diversity of viewing events. (3) Apply multiple narratives to present the interlocking relationship between people. This study summarizes the following three application points: (1) To assess the appropriateness of using multiple narrative techniques. (2) Allocation of information to each narrative line. (3) To make the narrative point of view more explicit through division.
