This study has been divided into four chapters. Chapter 1 gives a general introduction of high-performance polymers, the history and development of electrochromism, nanostructures in electrochromism, and organic-inorganic hybrids. In Chapter 2, the experiment part, two new monomers (TPA-OBz and OHCz) have been successfully synthesized, and also the three different polyamides (TPA-PA, OHCz-PA, and co-OH-PA) are prepared to investigate the electrochromic behaviors of the hydroxy-containing arylamine-based polymer and its corresponding hybrid film. Moreover, the electrochromic devices (ECDs) with heptyl viologen are also fabricated in this study. The results are all discussed in Chapter 3. Polymers with hydroxyl groups undergo the sol-gel reaction to form the hybrid films with zirconium dioxide (ZrO2), which offer an electron-storage group to assist charge transferring during the redox process, further improving the switching response behavior. Finally, all the results are concluded in Chapter 4.
