Analysis of Dynamic Spectrum Trading in Cognitive Radio Networks

Cognitive radio network is an important topic in future technology to improve the utilization of spectrum resource. One popular issue is spectrum trading in secondary market, and lots of trading mechanisms have been proposed. Although there is a variety of auctionmechanisms proposed for spectrum trading, there is not acomplete analysis of the difference of auction mechanisms. In this paper, we do the analysis and comparison amongdifferent proposed auction mechanisms for spectrum trading. We model this spectrum trading market as oligopoly market where primary users as sellersand secondary service providers as buyers. By using the buyer’s utility,we could derive the demand functions of secondary service providers. Withthe characteristicsof oligopoly market, the demand functions and the supply functions can let us obtain the results of auctions. The numerical results reveal the difference of auction mechanisms. This paper can provide reference for both primary user and secondary service provider to make properdecisionsin the spectrum trading market.
