To explore the construction of political discourse of Mainland China's official media, this study focuses on the People’s Daily Overseas Online ( “Haiwai Network” ) and the Global Times Online ( “Huanqiu Network” ). By using the discourse-historical approach, this study analyses news coverage of 2015 China Victory Day parade. Under the socialist public ownership and the authority of official media, the People’s Daily Overseas Online and the Global Times Online attempt to “tell the Chinese story well.” The Global Times Online constructs the image of parade in the eyes of outsiders by means of reporting and commenting, with foreigners as the main interviewees. The People's Daily Overseas Online attaches great importance to informative reports, and immediately reports various details of the military parade preparations. Its main interviewees are overseas Chinese. In this way, China Victory Day parade is an event that can make overseas Chinese feel honored. The results of this study showed that the People’s Daily Overseas Online and the Global Times Online expounded on the United States and other Western countries that ignored the Pacific Ocean during World War II and covered the 2015 China Victory Day parade as a momentous progress of the commemoration of World War II around the world. Mainland China obviously tried to establish the legitimacy of the Communist Party for leading the Chinese defense against Japan during World War II.
