There are a great amount of research suggested that contacting with plants has positive benefits. Moreover, fragrant plants not only have visual benefits, but also have beneficial effects on smelling the aromas. There is a close relationship between olfaction and emotion, indicating that olfaction bringing up different emotional feelings. Many literatures have confirmed that the fragrance of plants can reduce anxiety (Lehrner et al., 2005; Field et al., 2005) and trigger positive emotion(Warrenburg, 2005;Weber& Heuberger, 2008)and other effects. However, the link between emotion and brain area responses of fragrant plants is still unclear. The purpose of this study is to explore the effects of different plant fragrance on the subjects’ brain activation responses and emotion. This study used the common fragrant plants’ petals of Taiwanese landscape: rose, jasmine and lily as plant materials. The study used the functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) machine to examine the brain activity while participants were smelling the fragrance, and used the emotional questionnaire (ScentMove) as a psychological indicator to explore the emotional state of smelling different true fragrant plants’ odors. This study tried to explore the effects of different true fragrant plant odors on the mood and brain response of the subjects. The result showed that when smelling the common fragrant plant odor in Taiwan landscape caused the activation of the Occipital Lobe, and the subsequent experimental: essential oils and the unspoken odor species operation for this result showed that the use of common fragrant plants in Taiwan as odorants may cause people to imagine the plants and to connect with past memories. In terms of emotions, roses bring romance, happiness and pleasure feelings; jasmine brings refreshing, clean and nostalgic feelings; and lily brings a feeling of disgust.
