"Teacher Says" and Reflections on the Play

This is a play about “a teacher.” One day in class, this teacher unintentionally has a nasty clash with one of her student and is physically attacked by him. After the conflict, the teacher’s life seems to be influenced by it, but on the surface it looks exactly the same: she still need to make endless discussions or compromises. The student’s parent makes the first move to this event by coming to see the teacher to ask her not to sue the student, and as long as she does not make a legal claim against the student, the parent is willing to fulfill any request from her. Meanwhile, the school administrator comes to visit the teacher, only to be found he has a reason not so pure and simple. When the teacher finally goes back to the school, the headmaster interviews her, but what he really cares about is the reputation of the school. The headmaster makes it clear that the teacher has to succumb under any circumstances— no matter it is about a fight or about school business. Lacking the support of the school, the teacher comes to her original class without any buffer or protection… How will she interact with this class? And How would these pilings of incidents and emotions affect the teacher? Besides the play itself, this dissertation also includes my reflections on the play to clarify my preparation and thinking process before and after the completion of the play. Several interviews are o provided as references for people who are interested in the topic.
