北回歸線通過臺灣將之分為兩個氣候區,海流對海水表面溫度(SST)亦同樣造成影響。臺灣的珊瑚群聚分為兩大群,其分佈和水溫及海流的分佈型態相符合,本研究擬藉由叢生棘杯珊瑚(Galaxea fascicularis)探討海水表面溫度與共生藻的關係。叢生棘杯珊瑚廣泛分佈於臺灣的珊瑚礁,因此適合研究空間上的變化。本研究調查叢生棘杯珊瑚體內的共生藻群聚,在臺灣本島及周邊島嶼的海岸,分別採集兩個深度(3公尺和6公尺),以粒線體的細胞色素氧化酶基因(COI)和核的微管蛋白基因(

The Tropic of Cancer goes through the center of Taiwan separating it into two climate zones. Currents that pass through Taiwan also have an effect on the sea surface temperature (SST). The coral communities in Taiwan could be classified into two major clusters which congruent with SST and currents. This study was to investigate the relationship between SST and Symbiodinium communities in Galaxea fascicularis. Galaxea fascicularis is widely distributed in the reefs of Taiwan, which is a good model for spatial variation study.
