TED Talks演講融入高中英語教學之行動研究

An Action Research Study on Integrating TED Talks into High School English Teaching

摘要


本研究為將TED Talks演講融入高中英語教學之行動研究,研究目的為探究TED Talks演講融入高中英語教學的設計與實施情況、學生英語演講能力與對英語演講學習態度的改變。在五周研究時間中進行三個階段的反思研究。研究對象為研究者所服務的學校一個高三班級共38學生。研究者將與課本文本同主題的TED Talks演講融入課程,教學活動設計,遵循3P原則流程:觀摩範例(present), 練習(practice), 產出 (produce),再藉由透過小組討論與練習,建構學生英語演講能力。研究者透過錄影、觀察、訪談、學習單等方式,運用質性分析方法,呈現教師教學與學生學習歷程情況,再輔以學生問卷調查結果、演講評分結果,進行量化分析,獲得不同角度的驗證。 研究發現,多元教材能提升學生的學習興趣與學習動機,而TED Talks演講可成為教學者多元取材的來源;針對演講能力的訓練,學生透過小組合作學習,可提升了學習的動機與興趣;另外,學生透過實際演練,可以確實提升學生英語演講相關能力。

This study is an action research study that integrates TED Talks into high school Eglish teaching. The purpose of the study was to explore the design and the integration of TED Talks, the students’ learning process, and the changes in the students’ speech ability and their attitude toward English speech. The reseach lasted for five weeks and proceeded in three phases. The participants of the study were 38 senior 3 students. The reaseacher selected those TED Talks with the same theme as the main articles in the textbook and integrated them in the teaching process. The reseacher followed the 3P principle to design the instruction: present good speech models, practice, and then produce.The students developed their speech ability by discussing and practicing in groups. To clear up the teaching process and the learning process, the researcher applied qualitative methods to collect data, including recording, observing, interviewing, students’ worksheets, etc. Students’ questionaires and the results of students’ rubric of English speech were analyzed quantitatively to get different angles of verification. The findings of this study show that multi-materials can raise students’ interest and motivate students more and that TED Talks can be a rich source of multi-materials for teachers. Students can be more interested and more motivated in learning English speech via collaborative learning activities. Besides, students’s English speech ability can indeed be improved a lot via practicing and producing a speech.
