This thesis utilizes monthly data covering the period from 1994 to 1998 to examine the strategic interaction in banking industry of Taiwan. The estimated results have shown that First Bank, Bank of Taiwan and all the new banks regard their products as a strategic complement to the rest of banks. However, Chang Haw Bank, Hua Nan Bank, Taiwan Cooperative Bank, Taiwan Business Bank and Chinatrust Commercial Bank regard their products as a strategic substitute to the rest of banks. Moreover, the product of First Bank to Bank of Taiwan, Bank of Taiwan to First Bank, Bank of Taiwan to all the new banks and all the new banks to Bank of Taiwan have strategic complement between each other. However, the product of First Bank to all the new banks and all the new banks to First Bank have strategic substitute between each other.
