This research deals with the issue of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in Tzu-Chi Taiwanese enterprises in Shanghai area. Empirical data for this study are generated from in-depth interviews and field observation which the author conducted in 2010. Results show that the reason why Taiwanese enterprises in China join Tzu-Chi Buddhist Foundation is mainly because its emphasis of humanities, environmental protection, volunteer work and charities. These values help not only the Taiwanese companies transform its early sweatshop management style to a management with more social responsibilities, but also enhance the mutual trust between Chinese workers and Taiwanese managers, and their loyalties to the company.
