Design of High-Speed Multi-Differential Signal Pairs for Modular Jack Connector

Differential transmission may gradually replace trace as the media transmitting high-speed signal on high-speed digital circuit. This dissertation investigates the suppress of balance crosstalk noise in high-speed multi-differentials pair modular jack for high-speed interconnection. In the modular jack connector, the plug and the insert have untwisted wiring regions, which result in significant crosstalk noise between nearby pairs. Hence, reducing the near-end crosstalk noise (NEXT) caused by the region of these is the most crucial part of the interconnection design. The single-ended S-parameters of a modular jack connector was extracted by using high frequency measurements. Then the balancing capacitors between single-ended wire pairs can be calculated and embedded on the PCB for reducing the crosstalk noise caused by the plug and the insert. After the compensation of balancing capacitors in the modular jack connector, the crosstalk in frequency domain is clearly reduced and satisfies the standard requirement. By using the software simulation, the measurement results in frequency domain can be transformed into the time domain eye diagram. To observe the change before and after compensation of modular jack connector, it shows obviously out perform of the eye diagram.
