指紋辨識掃描系統圖像之使用性評估

摘要


圖像(Icon)的設計是發展圖形使用者介面(GUI)最重要的一項過程,一個好的圖像設計讓使用者不需透過複雜的認知解讀,也能憑直覺或經驗清楚地明白圖像所要傳達之意義,進而增進使用效率與降低錯誤產生。本研究使用一組由美國國家標準和技術研究院(NIST)所設計之20個指紋辨識掃描系統圖像,透過圖像的問卷設計對30名受測者施行圖像的辨識率測試,再透過混淆矩陣分析,對這組圖像的使用性加以評估,經實驗結果得知在20個圖像中有約1/2的圖像辨識率顯著低於國際標準化組織(ISO)所建議之66.7%。本研究進而針對部分辨識率不佳之圖像根據文獻探討所獲得之設計原則進行重新設計,並再次設計問卷以進行新設計圖像與原有圖像的意義符合度測試,用以瞭解新設計圖像之使用性是否顯著優於原圖像,經實驗結果得知在4組新設計的圖像中有3組新設計圖像的意義符合度均優於原圖像,最終取得一組改良使用性的指紋辨識掃描系統圖像,可供未來相關設計參考之用,希望藉此增強使用者對於指紋辨識掃描系統的認知與使用效能。

Icon design is the major process for developing the Graphic User Interface (GUI). A well-designed icon would enable users to clearly understand what the icon means according to their experience without complicated interpretation. It would therefore improve efficiency and accuracy of interacting with GUIs. A set of 20 fingerprint scanning system icons designed by the National Institute of Standard and Technology (NIST) was used in this study to implement an icon identification test on 30 subjects by questionnaires, and then to evaluate the usability of 20 icons with confusion matrix analysis. Results indicated that the identifications of approximately 1/2 of these 20 icons were significantly lower than standard identification rate 66.7% as stipulated by ISO (International Organization for Standard). Based on design principles in literatures, part of invalid identification icons were redesigned and tested to compare the meaning conformity between the revised icons and original icons via questionnaires for finding out if the revised icons are more effective than the old ones. Results showed that among the 4 sets of redesigned icon, 3 sets were better identified than the original icons in meaning conformity. Eventually a usability-improved set of fingerprint scanning system icons was derived. The findings of this study should be able to provide relevant design suggestions to enhance the usability of fingerprint scanning systems.
