Fourteen reinforced concrete frames with or without an infill were constructed and tested under horizontal cyclic loading. Analysis using structural models that integrated the ideas of equivalent diagonal strut and nonlinear pushover analysis was performed on these frames. Force-deformation relation of frames established based on ACI 318, FEMA-356, and recommendations by other researchers were presented and compared with test results. Load-deformation relationship of individual components were also obtained from trial-and-error and compared with FEMA or ACI provisions. Possible shear failure mechanism and the effects of infills on the behavior of the frame were also identified in this research. Conclusions of this study would provide engineers a practical reference during the analysis of building retrofit.
