The Effect of Context and Affordance on the Use of Objects

This study investigated the effect of context and affordance on the use of Object. This study set six contexts, and four objects which convey different affordance. The experiment includs three phases: (1) using rank-order scale to select representative texture or patterns which convey specific Affordance on the objects; (2) using questionnaire and interview obtain operations tend on the contexts; (3) using questionnaire and interview to explore the effect of objects and contexts for subjects. The results include: (1) the reactions using One-Sample t-test obtain the dominant response. After that, the dominant response through simultaneous regression obtains the relationship of the contexts and objects; (2) this study analyzing the content of the interview, and discusses the thinking mode of subjects. The results show that the contexts effect the reaction of the subjects after the contexts and objects was combined. In addition, (1) the subjects will re-interpretation of the shape of the object when the context and object was conflict; (2) some subjects determine how to use the object base on the affordance of that object.
