有機非線性光學材料DAPSH晶體之製備及性質分析

摘要


有機非線性光學材料具有優越的非線性光學特性,因此在光資訊處理及光電元件上有很高的應用價值,但晶體生長不易是此類材料發展上的缺點。   DAPSH(Trans-4-(Dimethylamino)-N-phenyl-4-stilbazolium Hexafluorosphate)是Coe et al.於2002年發表的新穎有機非線性光學材料10,近期,Figi et al (2008)的研究11指出 DAPSH的SHG係數 d111=(290±40) pm/V at λ= 1.907 μm比DAST 的SHG係數d111=(210±55) pm/V at λ=1.907 μm來的更高,且DAPSH晶體平面軸與長軸的夾角比DAST晶體的夾角小,預期DAPSH晶體將會更適合用於光電應用,是相當有潛力的新材料。但是目前針對DAPSH晶體生長的研究仍十分不足,因此須對DAPSH晶體的生長作進一步的研究。 本論文除針對DAPSH進行晶體生長的研究外;並建立DAPSH的溶解度曲線。此外亦利用X-ray 繞射儀、電子顯微鏡、分光光度計等儀器評價晶體,藉以了解DAPSH晶體的外觀形狀、內部結構及光學特性。

There has been considerable research interest in organic nonlinear optical(NLO) materials mainly because of their potential for various applications in optoelectronic and photonic devices. Compared to their inorganic counterparts, well-designed organic NLO materials can have much larger optical nonlinearities. A notable example is DAST(4-dimethylamino-N-methyl-4-stilbazolium tosylate), which has been shown to exhibit a very large second-order nonlinear optical coefficient . However , the growth of high quality and large size DAST crystals remains difficult . Through molecular engineering, it is possible to get new material crystals that possess better optical properties and growth characteristics. Coe et al (2002)10. Synthesized a new stilbazolium salt DAPSH (trans-4’- dimethylamino-N-phenyl-4-stilbazolium hexafluorophosphate), which was shown to possess a very high SHG activity. Recently Figi et al (2008)11. reported the SHG coefficient of DAPSH to be d111=290±40 pm/V at λ= 1.907 μm fundamental wavelength, which presents a considerable improvement with respect to the presently best material DAST with d111=210±55 pm/V at λ=1.907 μm . Also the crystal packing of DAPSH chromophores is expected to be better suited for EO applications due to a smaller angle between the molecular dipoles compared to DAST . Because the effective utilization of any NLO crystals for any conceivable application demands high quality crystals, it is required to develop suitable crystal growth process for DAPSH. In this study, DAPSH crystals were grown by the temperature lowering technique. We also determined the solubility curves of DAPSH in various solvents (100%acetonitrile,50%acetonitrile+50%Acetone ) . The as-grown crystals were subjected to both structural and optical property studies, including x-ray diffraction, UV-visible spectroscopy, and electron microscopy analyses.
