Developing a Fall-risk Evaluation and Balance Stability Enhancement System by Measuring Noninvasive Physiologic Signals

Falling down is an unpredictable accident and the caused injury can be serious; in particular, when it happens to the elderly, it can be fatal. In recent years, the proportion of the elderly population has increased in Taiwan, which shows that Taiwan has become an aging society. The elderly medical care ratio has increased gradually especially fall accident care. In order to reduce the possibility of falling, this research aims to evaluate the body balance system to provide nursing staff more information. The purpose of this report is to develop a fall-risk assessment and balancing mechanism. We used a non-invasive measurement physiological signals machine to measure physiological messages and give physical therapy via vibrating insoles that improve the body’s balance system. This research is focuses on the usage of the pressure-measured instruments to collect statistics from a number of subjects of different ages. Also, we use some mathematical analysis methods, such as Multi-scale Entropy (MSE), with empirical mode decomposition (EMD) to estimate their balance and stability systems. The subjects made progress due to physical stimulation treatment (wearing vibrating insoles). We expect the results of this research to advance the accuracy of this subject, and the elderly will be able to obtain better medical care and not be among the high-risk groups of falling.
