Exploring Smart Phone Product Development Trend by Technology Trajectory Theory

摘要

iPhone 3G在台灣上市之後，因iPhone帶來購買的熱潮，使得智慧型手機成為眾多消費者都想購買的電子商品之一。由於後續智慧型手機爆炸性的成長，也帶動週邊相關製造產業為之盛行，如行動通訊系統商、觸控面板製造商、應用軟體開發商等，成為大家矚目的焦點企業。於是，智慧型手機的發展現況在全球化及技術快速複製的影響之下為何？消費者對於智慧型手機的選擇是否影響了智慧型手機相關技術的發展？本研究將對智慧型手機相關技術發展演進進行全面的了解與研究，並且依循技術的演進模式探討智慧型手機在技術層面的發展趨勢。
智慧型手機的多樣化功能，加上開放性應用服務平台提供使用者下載喜愛的軟體，讓使用者能製作專屬的使用介面。另外，電信國際化、自由化影響行動通訊技術快速發展，也將智慧型手機的使用模式帶入另一個新的世代。目前通訊系統只要推出新服務，便能帶動相關的新應用和新需求。因此智慧型手機的市場需求與產品創新成為相關產業所重視同時致力發展的方向。
本研究將採用創新大師 Christensen與Raynor (2003) 所提出之科技演進理論做為基礎，瞭解智慧型手機之形成與演進之軌跡及產業發展分析，依此預測智慧型手機在未來觸控面板技術及其他硬體功能、應用服務、作業系統、通訊系統的趨勢發展。

Ever since iPhone 3G was put on the market, more and more people wanted to buy iPhone which made Smartphone one of the electronic products consumers desired. As the growth of follow-up Smartphone was extremely great, peripheral product manufacturing industries were also made popular. For example, mobile communication industry, touch panel manufacturing industry and application software developing industry became the key industries people focus on. Therefore, our questions are: What is the current development status of Smartphone under the impacts of globalization and rapid technology-copying? Would consumers’ choice for Smartphone affect the technology development relating to Smartphone? In this paper, we tried to understand and investigate the overall development evolution of technology relating to Smartphone and discussed the development trend of Smartphone, in terms of technology, based on the evolution model of technology.
The diversified functions of Smartphone and its open application service platform, of which users can download the software they like, allow users to create personal user-interface. In addition, the internationalization and liberalization of telecommunication accelerate the development of mobile telecommunication technology and bring the usage pattern of Smartphone to a new era. At the moment, once a new service is released by a communication system, new applications and demands would be popular and needed. Hence, market demand and product innovation of Smartphone are the development direction relative industries value and emphasize on.
According to the theory on disruptive technology proposed by Clayton M. Christensen and Michael E. Raynor, we explored the formation and evolution path of Smartphone and analyzed the development of relative industries. We used the results to predict Smartphone’s future trend and development, in terms of touch panel technology, hardware function, application service, operating system and communication system.
