光碟機產業變遷,回顧與分析

摘 要

政府為了扶植台灣電腦產業，於1987年在工業技術研究院成立光電中心，投入電腦週邊產品的研發，光碟機是一個典型的代表產品。隨著工研院的技術及人才轉移到產業界，帶動國內廠商爭相投入，台灣光碟機最興盛的時期，全球曾經有30幾家光碟機供應商。隨著電腦及影音容量的需求，光碟機朝輕、薄、短小、容量高的趨勢發展，由於光碟機的格式「世代交替快速」，技術不斷的推陳出新，經過30幾年來的發展興衰起落及整併，台灣目前僅剩飛利浦建興、廣明(QSI)兩家供應商。而光碟機廠前三大：日立樂金(HLDS)、東芝三星(TSST)、飛利浦建興(PLDS)，合計已佔全球資訊用光碟機市場，超過八成的市佔率。
全球市場也因此形成三國鼎立的新樣貌，資訊用DVD光碟機已經走向成熟階段，新世代藍光（Blu-ray Disc）光碟機則處於成長期。在產業分佈大勢底定的後整合時代，光碟機產業更大的成長潛力，將在薄型市場以及消費性電子領域。在大者恆大的趨勢中，BD技術及關鍵零組件的高技術門檻，對所有光碟機供應商的競爭仍是一大考驗。
本論文研究以光碟機產業為實證研究對象，對於此產業的興衰，評估整個過程變化及所造成的影響。並依據現階段資訊性光碟機市場，及消費性影音光碟機市場的趨勢進行分析。從各個光碟機主要競爭廠商，現階段的產品技術、權利金保護傘及關鍵零組件發展現況，及未來競爭優勢進行探討，將有助於進一步了解此產業未來走向，對消費市場的影響。

Abstract
To nurture the computer industry, the Taiwan government established Electronics and Optoelectronics Laboratories of Industrial Technology Research Institute in 1987. It is engaged in research and development for computer peripheral products, of which a typical achievement is Optical Disk Drive .

Along with the transfer of technology and human resources from Electronics and Optoelectronics Research Laboratories to computer industry, more and more companies stepped into the field of Optical Disk Drive. At its peak, there were more than 30 companies worldwide that produced ODD for the global market.

Along with the progress of the computer industry, ODD has been improving and evolving into light, thin, compact, and high capacity style. Due to the rapid ' generation turnover", Taiwan's ODD industry has been shuffling for more than 30 years and now it only has two major survivors, PLDS and QSI.

Among other ODD suppliers, HLDS, TSST and PLDS altogether share more than 80% of the global ODD market. Thus, global ODD market nowadays is dominated by these three companies. Under such circumstance, DVD ODD has reached its mature stage and the next generation ODD, Blue-ray Disc, is on the rise.

ODD industry has gone through shuffling and intergration and stepped into a post-intergration period so that the whole industry has more potential than ever to grow in both the compact and consumer electronics products.

The BD technology and key components will be an ordeal for every single ODD supplier. Only large-scale suppliers enjoy the advantage to develop essential technology.

This research is focused on ODD industry's rise and fall through concrete evidence and evaluate how such a rise-and-fall process influences the industry. In addition, it also analyzes the tendency of ODD industry in both computer and consumer video markets.

This research tries to probe into the interaction between major ODD competitive producers about their production technology, the royalty income protection system, the development of key components, and the cutting-edge of future competition. This kind of studies may help to understand the future trend of ODD industry and the influence upon consumers’market.
