The current research examined the relationship between perfectionism and stress and tested procrastination as a mediator using a structural equation modeling analysis. I used the following instruments to assess examined variables: (a) Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale (MPS; Frost Marten, Lahart, & Rosenblate, 1990), (b) General Procrastination Scale-Student (GP-S; Lay, 1986, 1988), (c) Perceived stress scale (PSS; Cohen, S., & Williamson, G., 1988). Results of this study indicated that positive perfectionism was negatively related to stress and negative perfectionism was positively related to stress. Higher level of negative perfectionism (e.g., concerns over mistake, parental expectation, parental criticism and doubting of actions) was associated with higher level of stress, mediated by procrastination. In sum, the results of this study provide direct evidence on the importance of procrastination in preventing stress at work. Moreover, this finding of this study provide helpful management strategies for organizations, managers, psychologists, and human resources staffs to design appropriate programs to reduce the procrastination behaviors for effective stress management.
