摘要

Blog是Web log的簡稱。Blog提供雙向交流(two-way communication)的互動平台，是一個讓人發表想法、意見、或評論的網站(web site)。隨著網際網路(Internet)及行動網路(mobile networks)的擴展，行動Blogger可以使用智慧型手機(smart phone)以多媒體簡訊服務(multimedia messaging service, MMS)的方式來更新Blog的內容。多媒體簡訊服務使得行動設備(mobile device)間及應用(application)到行動設備的簡訊傳輸，具有全面多樣性的內容，包括文字、圖片、聲音、影像。多媒體簡訊服務是被設計來開發利用全範圍(full area coverage)行動寬頻網路的潛能。目前上市提供服務的全範圍行動網路，例如：General Packet Radio Service (GPRS)/Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS)，實際上只能提供大約30/300 Kbps的資料傳輸速率，因此不能有效的支援內容豐富的多媒體簡訊服務。相對於全範圍的UMTS網路，在無線寬頻網路方面，WiMax (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access)/WLAN (Wireless Local Area Network)能在都會/區域(metropolitan/local)的範圍中，提供將近75/30 Mbps的高速資料傳輸速率；但欠缺精密的行動管理機制，因此不能有效的提供全範圍的多媒體簡訊服務。
我們藉由整合UMTS提供的精密行動管理機制與WiMax/WLAN提供的無線寬頻傳輸服務，設計並發展無所不在的多媒體簡訊服務(ubiquitous MMS, UMMS)。我們也以UMMS，設計並發展UBlog (ubiquitous Blog)平台。UBlog平台具有下列特色：
․即時更新通知：UBloggers會即時收到更新到達通知；
․內容豐富的更新：UBloggers能以具有全面多樣性內容的多媒體，包括：文字、圖片、聲音、影像，更新其Blogs；
․獨立於業者的用戶管理：允許UBlog的商業營運不受限於GPRS/UMTS系統業者。因此，UBloggers能在任何地方，以低價更新其Blogs。

A Web log (Blog) is a powerful two-way communication tool, in which people can submit and share their thoughts, ideas, suggestions, and comments. With the development of Internet and mobile networks, the mobile bloggers can use smart phones to update their blogs through multimedia messaging service (MMS). MMS enables the transmission of messages with full content versatility, including text, image, audio, and video, between mobile devices and from applications to these devices. MMS is designed to exploit the potential of mobile broadband networks with full area coverage. The existing full-coverage mobile networks, such as General Packet Radio Service (GPRS)/Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS), are not able to effectively support content-rich MMS since the practical data rates offered are limited to 30/300 Kbps. In parallel with the full-coverage UMTS networks, Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMax)/Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) provides high-speed transmission service with actual data rates around 75/30 Mbps in a metropolitan/local environment. However, because of the lack of mobility management support, WiMax and WLAN are not able to effectively provide full-coverage MMS.
By integrating the sophisticated mobility management mechanism provided by GPRS/UMTS and the broadband transmission service provided by WiMax/WLAN, we design and develop ubiquitous MMS (UMMS). With the UMMS, we design and develop a ubiquitous Blog (UBlog) platform. The UBlog platform provides:
․ Instant update notification that enables UBloggers to immediately receive the Blog update notification;
․ Content-rich Blog access that enables UBloggers to update their Blogs with full content messages, including text, image, audio, and video;
․ Operator-independent user management that enables the UBlog business operation to be independent of GPRS/UMTS operators. As a result, UBloggers can update their Blogs in any place, at low cost.
