長期生活在台灣,對於原鄉馬來西亞所發生的事,已漸漸脫軌;但弔詭的是,記憶與時事依然是我創作的養分,就像漂流中的人,沒有根基、隨處流動。以自身作為載體,移動中的身體,借由影像、聲音、裝置等將所關心的、所聞所聽的、所有感觸的,串聯起來,成為作品。作品是捕捉日常生活的狀態下的產物,也因此作品貼近對 「離散」、「移民」與「認同」的議題上進行探索。 在創作的作品中,我嘗試運用簡約的科技產物:手機錄影功能、DVD錄影機、電腦後製及影像處理進行創作,同時少部分作品應用傳統編織。在創作中,我不忌諱運用多項媒材進行創作,我主要思考在如何把所關注的藝術課題,準確的呈現及表達。 本文共分為六章。第一章 緒論:以身分背景為主軸,勾勒出離散狀態及創作背景。第二章主要是以議題、離散與身分課題介紹與作品創作的關係性。第三章主要在創作媒材上進行探討及分析。第四章,從影像中的文字探討文化差異及跨地域觀看的思考差異。第五章是以作品《迷失在雨林之中》作為跨國性及離散狀態的敘述終結。而最後一章的總結中,反省在藝術創作上所關注的課題與其表達限制上不足。
I have been staying in Taiwan for a few years and this makes me get out of touch with my hometown – Malaysia. However, my memories and all of the things happening in my hometown affect every piece of my artworks. I mainly used the image, sounds and device to combine all of the things that I have seen, cared, heard and sensed together into my artworks. I captured everything in my daily life and combined with my experiences, and notions such as “diaspora”, “immigration” and “identity” that I explored and delved in my artworks reflect the current stage of my life.
In my artworks, I am portraying someone who is devoid of a firm foundation (or sense of belonging) and just drifting along and with the flow. I used several simple devices including mobile phone, DVD video recorder, and audio post-production by both computer and traditional method to present my artwork. In addition, I combined my artwork with multimedia, in order to truly present and expressed all of the topics.
This thesis is structured with six chapters. Chapter 1 presented the alienation issue with my Identity as the background. In Chapter 2, I introduced the topics and the relationships of these topics with the creativity of my artworks. In Chapter 3, I discussed and analyzed the creation of media. In Chapter 4, I explored the culture difference and observed the difference in difference area through the media. This final chapter concluded all topics with
