摘要

加斯東．巴舍拉（Gaston Bachelard）在「空間詩學」中表示：「真實的私密，不可能讓人感到反感。」 但這種私密只來自於自己與自己的空間。兩人以上即為公開場合；真正的不公開，是在只有自己的狀態。自己是孤獨的嗎？孤獨和寂寞蘊含有相同的涵義嗎？我想探討的是人，並非城市。冷漠是必然的都會風景，但是冷漠的來源絕對不會是突然發生的，畢竟人應該就是群居性的動物，只不過因為太多人了，處在身邊的人，陌生人比認識的人多太多，封閉自己成為保護自己的方法。人在城市的目的很容易是互相交易與賺錢，提供服務與被服務，金錢的存在是流通的物質但常被認知為情感，在這之中，所有的一切全被污名化，包括真正的情感。公開場合的私人恐懼，便是在廣大都會中需要隱藏自己真實情感的恐懼。大家齊聚一堂時，不說話的那個是恐懼的，叨叨絮絮的那個也是！而這個製作選擇使用圓型舞台的正是《公開場合的私人恐懼》的內容與形式。

There is absolute solitude in genuine private space. More than one person makes the space, public.
Real privacy is a state that shares with no one. Is that state lonesome? Do aloneness, solitude, and isolation imply the same?
What I am trying to discuss is about people, not city.
Aloofness is everywhere in urban scenes.
It can't just happen out of nowhere, inasmuch as human beings are a gregarious species.
However, the social genes produce no comforts when we are surrounded by strangers, like that in cities. Thus, we shut ourselves up as a protection.
In the beginning, people gathered in cities for economic purposes, for the sake of commercial businesses, merchandise trades, serving and being served, to sum up, it's all about money. People communicate each other by money, through money, or for money. Now, money is ‘the commodity’ for everything, including our emotional needs.
Private Fears in Public Places is about the anxiety of hiding our real emotions and feelings in urban environments. In gathering, not only the quiet ones have this fear, but also the talkative ones. .Hence, the choice of theatre in the round (arena theatre) was the content and the form of Private Fears in Public Places.
