與孤獨同行--- 探討周書毅舞作中的自我主體意識

摘要


台灣新世代編舞家周書毅在其創作主題上,經常圍繞著孤獨、存在感、疏離感,彷彿對於人和人、環境、事物的關係感到疏遠。而周書毅在他作品如S、《月亮上的人-安徒生》…等創作文案或節目單也明白指出他的創作來自於對人「存在」、「孤獨」的狀態所提出的問題。筆者發現,當周書毅在處理這些主題時,一向帶著當今年輕人習慣的幽默方式,以無厘頭的手段來表現心中對於周遭人事物的調侃;但在看似輕鬆、時而淡然的舞作氛圍下,卻又深深地蘊含著周書毅對於人生活主體感受的執意挖掘,以及生活於當今社會的自我主體應對機制。 筆者從近代思想家傅柯的主體研究裡所提到的自我主體形塑概念,看到其中蘊含的思想精神和政治策略與筆者對周書毅的作品解讀有著高度的對話性。在本論文中,筆者援引傅柯的自我主體形塑之論述,作為研究S、《月亮上的人-安徒生》和1875等舞作分析的核心運用理論,並周書毅的舞蹈創作及其社會歷史背景,在錯綜複雜的交互影響中,理出何以其創作普遍呈現對社會感到疏離、冷淡的趨勢?並討論成長於1980年後的當代台灣社會年輕編舞家周書毅,他在其作品中有意地探索人的存在、主體感時,他究竟是運用什麼樣的機制回應時代改變帶來的主體威脅?以及他是以怎樣的手法和概念藉由舞蹈媒介呈現其背後思維?

The works of Chou Shu-Yi, a Taiwanese choreographer of the generation who grew up in the late 1980s, often address the themes of solitude, alienation, and existence. He portrays the individual’s relation to others, the society, and the environment as distant, and alienated. Chou Shu-Yi himself said that he wanted to pose questions about human existence and solitude in the projects and programs for his works such S (2007) and Shadow of Andersen’s Illusion (2008). He uses many kinds of humour popular among the younger generation to mock issues regarding relationships in our society, including sarcasm and absurdity. Enshrouded in this light-hearted, humorous atmosphere, the works of Chou Shu-Yi explore deeper existential questions about subjectivity. Michel Foucault, in his philosophical writings, provided a framework for discussing issues of subjectivity. In this thesis, I apply Foucault's theory to the analysis of three of Chou Shu-Yi’s choreographies, S, 1875, and Shadow of Andersen’s Illusion. Furthermore, as a Taiwanese born in 1983, I explore what it is in his personal background that draws Chou Shu-Yi to the themes of alienation and individual subjectivity. In other words, I focus on how Chou Shu-Yi responds to threats to subjectivity brought by recent societal changes through his choreographic works.
