民族的想像與製造

The Imagination and Manufacturing of Taiwan’s Identity

摘要


長期以來,台灣社會由於國際身份及其他種種一再暗示著島嶼邊緣性的主體情狀,存在著集體認同焦慮,加上兩岸的緊張關係,大國小國的不平等心態根深蒂固,政治認同與文化認同更是一個複雜的議題。 本論文以「民族想像」為概念,從「島嶼」出發,試著跳脫狹義的民族中心主義,奠基於希望和覺醒中的共同體意識,不以島嶼為中心向外測量,而是站在島嶼之外的地方來定位這座島,一個島民所嚮往的地方-世界,進行對於過去及當代處境的回應,體現出一種歷時性(diachronic)的在地觀看座標。 作品所體現的是一種藝術的政治想像,以聯想與置換的方式拉出一條對於民族的延伸思考,不僅是反映對於過去身分認同的焦慮,也是一種再觀看台灣的方式,更像是在觀者心中植入一個「想法的開端」,尋求不同的「想像的共同體」之間的共存之道。

For a long time in Taiwan society, due to Taiwan’s international identity and other various subject situations suggesting the marginality of the island, there has been collective identity anxiety. Coupled with the cross-strait tense relations and the deep-rooted unequal mentality between the big country and the small country, political identity and cultural identity is a complex issue. In this paper, with the concept of "national imagination," it is attempted to escape from the narrow ethnocentrism from the "island." The sense of community is founded on hope and awakening. The island is positioned by standing outside the island instead of measuring in the center of the island. For the place the islanders have been longed for-the world, the response for the past and the contemporary situation is created to reflect a diachronic localized viewing coordinate. The works embodied an artistic political imagination and pulled out an extension of thinking for the nation in the way of association and replacement, not only reflecting the anxiety of the identities for the past but also a way of reviewing Taiwan. It more can be said to “the beginning of the idea” in the minds of the viewer to seek the coexistence way among different “imagined communities”.
