The Effect of Surface Feature and Structure Feature on Somatosensory Control

The purpose of this study is to explore the effect of analogical transferring on somatosensory control for our designed web GUI. The analogical transferring included two variables, i.e., surface and structural features. For facilitating experimental control, we proposed a new somatosensory control interface with Leap Motion control device. Experimental design of this study contained three independent variables, surface, and structural features (identical vs. different), and user type (experienced and casual users, according to his/her experience on somatosensory usage). With these variables we came up with a 2x2x2 mixed design and investigated the interactive influences of these variables on usability. The presented study has setup the experiment environment based on our assumption to combine gesture controls with web GUI. Applying the experimental result with variance analysis, we show that this research can be adjusted by differentiating experienced and casual users with the somatosensory control interface. Since the experimental process was designed based on complicated web page searching, the indistinctive part of experiment result from our assumption was responded upon the design of structural feature, which provides valuable information for related gestural control research as reference.
