摘要

本論文為翻譯評論走向，內容結合翻譯實務及翻譯理論。作者藉由翻譯古希臘學者希羅多德的作品「The History of Herodotus」之英譯本部份章節後，再以譯文來探討德國翻譯學學者弗米爾(Hans J. Vermeer)所創立的目的論(Skopos theory)。目的論為受眾取向的理論，該理論與其他學派理論最大的不同點在於：降低原文的重要性。該理論甚至於認為譯者可以以最大彈性的改寫原文，以達成讀者的最大可讀性及接受性。
除了探討目的論以外，筆者也進一步的深入剖析翻譯過程中所使用的翻譯技巧，除了講述各翻譯技巧的基本概念外，也以譯文作為實例，以求讓讀者能夠更了解翻譯技巧的使用。
本論文共分為六章，第一章為緒論，內容包含本論文的目的及動機；第二章為文獻探討，內容包括原作及英譯本之背景介紹，及翻譯理論的基本介紹。第三章為研究方法，筆者以目的論為基礎並決定翻譯時所需採取之方法及策略。之後則將和讀者分享翻譯的過程及選用的翻譯技巧。第四章為譯文。第五章則為翻譯實務探討，筆者講述翻譯的過程及細探譯文使用的翻譯技巧，包含：詞性轉換法、增詞法、省略法、正反、反正表達法、分句法、移位法及被動語態。第六章則為結論，譯者將提出撰寫此論文後所得到的省思與回饋。

This thesis translates the English version of Herodotus’ masterpiece—the History of Herodotus into Chinese, and then analyzes and discusses the translating process based on Skopos theory by Germany scholar, Han J. Vermeer.

Skopos theory is a reader-oriented theory, focusing on the readability and acceptability of readers of translated texts.
In addition, this thesis will use translated texts as examples to discuss translation techniques.

The thesis consists of six chapters: Chapter One states the purpose and motive of the thesis; Chapter Two contains the introduction of the History of Herodotus, and the background knowledge of Skopos theory. Chapter Three discusses the methodology and translating process of the thesis. Chapter Four is the translated text of Clio, the first chapter of the History of Herodotus. Chapter Five covers the analysis of the translation techniques used in the translated text. Chapter Six is the conclusion and the last part of the thesis.
