隨著科技進步,每個人在生活中碰到的壓力越來越大,對精神醫學資訊的需求也越來越大。但是精神醫學診斷名稱不一致 、譯法過於學術化而不易了解,阻卻了民眾閱讀精神醫學科普書的興趣。本研究的目的,是希望藉由整合精神醫學專業知識與以讀者為中心的翻譯理論建立一套可供未來精神醫學譯著譯者在翻譯新詞時可供參考的一套準則。 本研究具體進行的程序分三個步驟,第一是了解近年來從事精神醫學科普書譯著的譯者學術背景,第二是歸納精神醫學科普書譯著各種形式的醫學專有名詞中出現的翻譯失誤導致譯名不一致的因素及各類譯者在翻譯時出現的翻譯失誤類型,第三是以整合精神醫學專業知識與以讀者為中心的翻譯理以求譯詞易解的漢譯名詞。 本研究樣本是取自台灣地區在1995-2006年出版的精神醫學科普書譯著,所搜集到的譯著書量共272本。整理歸納後的結果發現: (一)在譯者學術背景方面,譯者學術背景分為醫學、翻譯學與其他三類。譯者具備醫學學術背景者佔整體精神醫學科普書樣本中的43%,具翻譯學學位者背景佔6%,其他類佔51%。(二)歸納出下列各類詞彙出現漢譯名詞不一致與各類譯者出現的翻譯失誤類型包括一詞多意、過譯、翻譯不足、誤譯、語言性翻譯失誤、廣義詞、使用非台灣地區之慣用語與譯音詞。 結合譯者具有精神醫學專業知識以及以讀者為中心的翻譯理論進行翻譯,本研究運用各種策略和翻譯法重新翻譯精神醫學科普書未達一致性漢譯名詞,以期強化譯文的正確性、可理解性和可讀性,以及增進讀者了解譯文和閱讀的意願,達到閱讀科普書獲取新知的目的。
With the development of technology, individuals have encountered higher and higher pressures in daily life; the demand for information related to psychiatry has increased dramatically. However, the inconsistent translation of psychiatry terminology makes it very difficult for general public to read and to understand popular science publications in psychiatry. The purpose of this thesis is to establish the most referable criteria, which has integrated the expertise of psychiatry and the reader-centered translation theory, for translation of popular science publications in psychiatry. Procedures were divided into three steps. The first step was to investigate the academic background of translators who had published the popular science translations in psychiatry. The second was to discovered translation errors which may contribute to the inconsistent terminology translation, attempting to find the relation between each type of translation error and academic background of translators. The third step was to retranslate the inconsistent terminology related to suicide under the framework integrating the psychiatry expertise and the reader-centered translation theory. A total of 272 popular science publications in psychiatry published between 1995 and 2006 were collected from Chung Jung Christian University. The academic backgrounds of translators were classified into three groups, including the medicine-related major, the translation and interpretation studies major and the others. Results of the investigation were as follows, the rate of medicine-related major was 43%, the translation and interpretation studies major was 6% and the others was 51%. The translation errors included polysemy, overtranslation, undertranslation, mistranslation, use of broader term, the transliteration and the use of unfamiliar idiom for people who live in Taiwan. Under the framework integrating the psychiatry expertise and the reader-centered translation theory, retranslation of inconsistent terminology was performed. It is hoped that the correctness of translation could be enhanced, the readability and acceptability among readers could be raised, and the readers could have better understanding to the translation and willing to read. Through the better understanding the translation, the readers can realize the purpose to obtain the knowledge regarding to psychiatry.
