This thesis is an analysis and discussion of the four pieces of Chih-Ying Fu’s cello recital for the master of music degree. The program features David Popper’s Nocturne No. 4 in B Minor, Op. 47, Pyotr Il’yich Tchaikovsky’s Pezzo Capriccioso, Op. 62, Dmitri Shostakovich’s Piano Trio No. 1 in C Minor, Op. 8, and Antonín Dvořák’s Piano Trio No. 2 in G Minor, Op. 26. The document consists of five chapters. From chapter one to chapter four, each is subdivided into four sections, including a brief historical background, an analysis of the formal structure, performance suggestions, and a conclusion of each piece. Chapter five is a summary and conclusion of the thesis.
