This supporting paper is program notes of Chu-Tzu Wu’s violin recital for master degree. The recital repertoire consists of Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto in E minor, Op.64, Grieg’s Violin Sonata No.3 in C minor, Op.45, Sibelius’ Mazurka and Waltz from 5 Pieces for Violin and Piano, Op.81. The paper presents biographical outlines of the composers, their backgrounds of compositions, analyses of above-mentioned pieces, and some thoughts about performance and practice.
