為流浪動物奮鬥── 動物保護人士之轉化學習歷程

Fighting for stray animals ── Transformative Learning Process of Animal Protectors

摘要


本研究旨在探究台灣動物保護人士的轉化學習歷程。台灣的動物保護意識在近年有顯著的發展,動物保護人士長年來的付出不可忽視,然而過去關於動物保護的研究多從法律、教育等層面進行,鮮少以動物保護人士為主體,探討其於動保行動中的學習內涵與機制。本研究以九位長期投入動物保護行動的動保人士為對象,以敘說研究法進行半結構式的深度訪談,從動保人士所敘說的自身生命經驗中,探究經驗脈絡與學習的關聯。筆者以轉化學習(Transformative Learning)作為主要的理論視角,分析動保人士在動保行動當中如何從經驗中學習;而在行動過程中,又有那些關鍵的困境及因素能夠促進動保人士的觀點轉化。研究結果顯示,動保人士幼年與動物相處的正面、負面經驗為影響其成人後投入動保行動的因素;投入動保行動的初期,動保人士的意義基模進行擴充與轉化,在行動過程中學習新知及學習解決問題的能力;而後面臨五種關鍵的困境,動保人士在此時期若能進行前提式的反省,並妥當處理人際關係,與人群溝通,則能產生觀點的轉化,否則將持續陷在困境之中;觀點轉化完成的動保人士,最後以新的行動及目標來試驗新自我,完成轉化學習的歷程。最後,筆者根據研究結果,對未來的研究方向提出兩點建議:一、動保人士中女性占多數,此性別議題值得探究,二、動保社團、組織的內部學習機制─亦為未來值得探討的方向。如此將能更深層地理解我國動物保護參與者的特色及學習內涵。

The research aimed to explore the process of transformative learning of animal protectors. In recent years, animal protection awareness has significant development in Taiwan, and the animal protector plays an important role. In the past, most of researches concerned about animal protection law, or animal protection education. However, rarely researches explore how animal protectors learn in the animal protected action. In this research I interview 9 animal protectors who devote themselves to animal protection. To explore how experiences interact with learning, I interview animal protectors by semi-structured interview, and analysis it in narrative inquiry. Transformative Leaning is main theory in this research, which provides me perspective to analyze how animal protectors learn in the experiences, and what factors or crucial point promote their perspective transforming. In results, positive and negative experiences of interacting with animals in the childhood, which will influences individuals join to animal protection or not when they grow up. In the beginning, animal protectors’ meaning schema expands and transforms. They learn knowledge and develop ability of problem solving in the action. In the middle stage, animal protectors confront 5 critical dilemmas. If animal protectors proceed in premise reflection, and communicate with others, it will promote individuals’ perspective transforming, or individuals will continue mired in difficulties. The animal protector who completed perspective transforming start to plan new action and new goal for testing themselves, and they finally accomplish transformative learning process. According to result of the research, I summarize two suggestions for future research directions. First, most of animal protectors are female, which phenomenon is worth to research. Second, internal learning mechanism of animal protection community or organization is worth to research, too. Then, we can deeply understand the animal protectors’ characteristic and learning connotation in Taiwan.
