摘要


在本論文中,主要利用SFM模型來模擬面射型雷射(VCSEL)遭遇光脈衝注入時的非線性動態。我們探討了SFM模型的基本架構以及其原理,並且針對SFM模型中不同的雷射參數對於雷射的影響做了比較。 在垂直偏極化的脈衝注入中,我們設定被注入的面射型雷射在被注入前發出x偏極化方向的光,接著再注入y偏極化方向的脈衝,調變注入脈衝的強度以及其重複的頻率,可以由面射型雷射的輸出得到不同的非線性態,其中包含:擬週期態(quasi-period state)、週期態(period state)以及混沌態(chaotic state),我們可以分別在x和y的偏極化方向上觀察到波動(oscillation)和脈衝(pulsation)兩種狀態,且兩個偏極化方向的模態分別隨著注入脈衝的強度增加而經由擬週期態進入混沌狀態,當注入脈衝強度到達某個臨界值時,x偏極化方向的模會被完全抑制,稱之為偏極轉換(polarization switching)。此外,偏極轉換所需的能量以及混沌態的區域受注入脈衝的重複頻率(repetition frequency)以及兩個雷射的頻率差異(detuning frequency)影響甚大,當注入脈衝的重複頻率越高,偏極轉換所需的能量越小且雷射隨注入強度產生混沌態的範圍也隨之減小。 另一方面,在模擬上我們利用偏極翻轉(flip-flop)操作的面射型雷射來驗證全光訊號重建的應用。利用兩個垂直偏極化的脈衝鏈注入面射型雷射,可使之處於偏極翻轉的操作模式,在這個系統中,除了可以得到不同的非線性狀態之外,當注入脈衝強度高於臨界值時,面射型雷射方可達到偏極翻轉並應用於全光訊號之重建。

The nonlinear dynamics of a vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) subject to a repetitive optical pulse injection are studied numerically using the SFM model. By varying the strength and the repetition frequency of the injection pulses, different dynamical states are found. Instead of having only one polarization mode at the slave laser output, both the y- and x-polarized modes are observed for the pulsation and oscillation states. While the pulsation states with the y-polarization follow a period-doubling route to chaotic pulsations, the oscillation states with the x-polarization undergo a quasi- periodic route to chaotic oscillations. With certain strength of injection, the x-polarized mode will be suppressed (i.e. polarization switching). Furthermore, the switching points and the regions of the chaotic states are found to be strongly influenced by the repetition frequency of the injection pulses and the detuning frequency between the master and slave lasers. All-optical signal regeneration by using the flip-flop operation VCSEL is demonstrated and investigated numerically. By using orthogonally polarized mode injection pulses, the lasing VCSEL can be operated in the flip-flop mode. The different dynamical states in this system are studied. The threshold intensity of the injection pulse for the injected VCSEL to achieve the flip-flop operation is also reported.
