Soil moisture serves as nutrients to plants and microbes to the soil. Water can help the plants to grow however it can also drown the plants if excess water is given. The plants might also die when there is lack of water. Therefore, proper irrigation is required for a normal plant growth. The standard method of determining soil moisture is using the gravimetric method, however this method takes time. For a faster response, an in situ sensor interfaced with microcontroller will be used to determine soil moisture. The main purpose of this research is to develop a wireless monitoring system for monitoring the soil moisture content of a greenhouse, in order for the farmers to monitor the soil water content of their crops using their computers and to schedule irrigation. The applying of water to the crops will be applied manually, since different stages of the plant growth needs different amount of water.
