This project attempts to outline methods that may be employed to help users of “GAIA-SPA resorts” separate themselves from the stress and strain of daily life, allowing them to “return to an infantile state of existence.” The design is based upon information gathered from articles related to the “body-space” concept, analysis of case studies, and observations of the resort environment. Furthermore, the operational strategy consists of three main concepts: “prioritization of the senses”, “the perceptible and the imperceptible”, and “interconnectivity.” The above strategies were then merged with known spatial concepts and applied to the two-step experimentation design process described in this project. Finally, through spa treatments and carefully constructed spatial atmospheres based on the ideas of “the concrete and the abstract”, “the static and the dynamic”, “indoors and outdoors”, and “man and nature”, the user can establish a close connection with his environment and ultimately discover his unique position in this world.
