網路探究對台灣國中生英語學習動機與成效之影響

摘要


資訊科技融入英語學習早已成為現代學習趨勢。由創辦人Bernie Dodge與Tom March共同設計之網路探究(WebQuest),是一種探索導向之電腦輔助語言教學的教學活動。然而台灣相關之英語學科研究報告卻寥寥可數。本研究在探討網路探究對於臺灣國中生英語學習成就與動機之影響。本研究隨機挑選位於桃園縣一間國中之兩個七年級班級,進行為期六週之英語教學實驗。實驗前後,兩組實驗組與對照組之學生需進行英語學習成就測驗及英語學習動機問卷。研究結果顯示,實驗組學生在進行網路探究之學習活動後,英語學習成就表現較對照組學生有顯著的進步。另外,在英語學習動機中,實驗組學生較對照組學生亦有顯著的差異表現。多數實驗組學生於訪談中均同意網路探究是一種既有趣又實用之英語學習活動。他們認為網路探究有助於提升他們的英語成績及學習動機。本研究結果盼能對未來國中英語科教師設計網路探究於教學上有所幫助。

The integration of information technology into instructions has become a trend in the Taiwanese education. Among those computer-assisted language learning technologies, Web Quest, an inquiry-oriented activity designed by Bernie Dodge and Tom March has gained more attention in instructional practices. However, previous research studies provided dearth evidence in exploring the use of WebQuest in English learning in Taiwan. This study attempted to investigate how WebQuest could promote English learning achievement and learning motivation. Two 7th grade classes were randomly selected from one junior high school in Taoyuan, Taiwan. The entire treatment lasted for six weeks. Before and after the treatment, students in the experimental group and control group were both asked to take the test of English learning achievement and the questionnaire of English learning motivation. Results indicated that the experimental group students with the assistance of WebQuest performed better in English achievement test. In the learning motivation part, the students showed higher motivation than the control group students. In addition, the interview results indicated that most experimental group students agreed that WebQuest was an interesting and useful activity for English class. They believed that WebQuest helped them improve English grades and learning motivation. Findings of this study may help the future English teachers to design their own WebQuest activities in the English instruction.
