本文採用:傳記、新聞、報告信等資料,呈現宣教士孫理蓮(Lillian R. Dickson,1901–1983)在台灣的事蹟,其中可以窺見:臺灣廿世紀下半葉醫療傳道、性別政治、殖民議題之風貌。特別透過孫理蓮的親筆書信,探究其思想、信仰根基及基督信仰的實踐;亦分析其所領導之基督教芥菜種會,從而評估弱勢關顧對社會的深遠影響及對教會發展的貢獻。藉由上述途徑,討論孫理蓮對台灣教會整體傳福音處境的影響,基督徒對弱勢族群的責任,描述孫理蓮憑信心,施展關顧服務作為的典範。 孫理蓮歷經醫療傳道性質巨變,但她包羅萬象的宣教事業卻大多始於醫療救助,再擴及育幼和謀生技藝,最終則使受助者體認福音與基督信仰,在弱勢群體中建立教會。孫理蓮總在最需要時獲得供應,因此她確信,若是上帝要滿足的需要,祂必會負責。孫理蓮大量書信中的生動描述,使她及所創立的芥菜種會,留下了恩慈良善的記號與熱情的足跡。即便在最困難、煎熬的景況中,孫理蓮仍迅速回應需求,勤於募款寫信,不遺餘力興辦各種弱勢關顧事工,啟發支持者、網羅人才。 所以,孫理蓮的事蹟,可作為當代台灣教會,要動員教會力量,網羅資源,委身善工時,先期的省思,和推展中重要的對照參考。
This article applies reports, biographies and news information to show missionary Lillian R. Dickson (1901-1983)’s genuine stories during her particular time in Taiwan, from which it reveals medical missions, gender politics and colonial issues in Taiwan in the mid-twentieth century. Especially through the missionary’s letters, it makes thorough inquiries into her foundations and practices of thought and belief. It as well analyzes The Mustard Seed Mission under Mrs. Dickson’s leadership to evaluate how profoundly ministries of care for the underprivileged can contribute to both society and Church, and from all above, explores what exactly Christians’ responsibilities and appropriate actions are for the underprivileged and brings out her great examples of doing so. Mrs. Dickson happened to undergo the qualitative transformation of medical ministry; nevertheless, her inclusive careers mostly pioneer with medical ministries before they were expanded to nursery and skill training for making a living, and eventually, help the helped experience and understand the gospel and Christianity, then establish churches among the underprivileged. She often received provision in time of urgent as she satisfied people’s urgent needs, and therefore she firmly believed that God is responsible for the needs that he would satisfy. The extensive letters, which are lively, and the Mustard Seed Mission established by her vividly show her kind and passionate footprints of she endeavors for the underprivileged. She remained diligent writing letters, responding to needs, and making efforts to establish ministries of care, and at the same time inspiring supporters and gathering the talented one to become her fellow co-workers. Therefore, Mrs. Dickson’s stories should be taken as important reference for Church in Taiwan today on multiple phases while mobilizing people and resources to certain commitments.
