In this thesis, we used ontology to classify documents in a knowledge management system (KMS). In a knowledge management system, a classification scheme can guide a user to the right domain to find the desired documents. A concept-based classification can be created by understanding the concepts of knowledge. Since an ontology can describe the concepts and their relationships, it can be used to create classification. In our approach, an Ontology was described in OWL and Jena Framework was used to parse OWL. Then a concept-based classification was created through the API provided by Vitals/KM, a commercial KMS, so that user can classify knowledge documents using the classification. When a user searches for knowledge, he can use the concept that corresponds to a classification to get desired documents and related information in the classification.
