運用FMEA於DRAM深溝式電容製程改善之研究

中文摘要 台灣的高科技產業產值佔全世界半導體製造商OEM,ODM的商業活動中佔有相當高的比例,由於產業特性屬於資本密集和技術密集,所以高科技公司對於發展製造端的製程風險管理(Risk Management)越來越重視。失效模式與效應分析(FMEA)是一種廣為用來評估製造業的製造流程風險的方法之一,而DRAM製造業者亦是如此。本研究個案為德國與台灣的兩家DRAM大廠所共同投資的合資公司(Joint Venture),但本身不具備研發功能,僅透過技術轉移而能成功地將奈米技術製程微縮(Shrink)導入新製程。 透過個案分析的方法,觀察個案如何於母公司開始執行新製程技術轉移時,企圖突破各種有限的資源限制,想辦法於較早的試產階段開始實施FMEA。除了運用更容易了解和更適合於DRAM前段晶圓廠製造之嚴重度(Severity)、發生率(Occurrence)和偵測度(Detection)的定義,同時個案亦於新產品導入的階段開始推動有效率和有效的FMEA實施方法,研究如何快速篩選出潛在的失效模式,來協助深溝式電容(Deep Trench Capacitor)製程模組段之製程改善活動,以達到試產良率提升的階段性目標。如同FMEA最主要的精神,就是在於事前找出潛在失效模式並實施預防措施,而不是事後的矯正措施,所以即便於量產階段實施FMEA固然重要,但是個案中的範例呈現了試產階段實施FMEA其實才是更為重要。

Abstract Taiwan’s output in OEM and ODM semiconductor manufacturing represents a high proportion relative to the total world market. With both capital- and technology-intensive industry characteristics, risk management in these hi-tech companies is becoming increasingly vital. Failure mode and effective analysis (FMEA) is a common method adopted to assess process risk in manufacturing, and DRAM manufacturing is no exception. As it’s a joint venture between a German company and a Taiwanese company, this DRAM manufacturer made a successful practice of converting nanometer technology shrinking and specific technology transfer process instead of internal research and development. This case attempts to study a solution to perform FMEA activity only with limited supporting resources in an early phase when parent companies start to transfer a new technology. By adopting a more easily understood and more suitable definition of severity, occurrence, and detection for DRAM front-end Fabrication (Fab), this case study provides insight on how to make an effective and sufficient FMEA practice during the new process introduction, while demonstrating how to screen the potential failure mode in a Deep Trench (DT) module process during the pilot phase to support yield learning. The main purpose of the FMEA method is to discover a potential failure mode and implement preventive action in advance, as opposed to corrective action. Through this individual example, you will find that it is significantly important to kick-off FMEA activity in an early pilot phase, not in mass production phase.
