Feasibility Study of Unity and Kinect-based Upper Limb Rehabilitation and Evaluation System for Stroke Survivors

According to the World Health Organization, an average of six seconds a person dies from a stroke. In Taiwan, cerebrovascular disease kills more than 13,000 people each year, it is the second largest cause of death and the main reason for adult disability. In addition to receiving treatment after the disease, stroke patients also need to undergo limb rehabilitation, long and boring process, according to the current situation of rehabilitation clinics, a rehabilitation teacher needs to simultaneously instruct multiple patients to have rehabilitation training, a complete rehabilitation assessment will take a lot of time and manpower, and all the results are putting it on paper, it is more difficult to track the patient's recovery. This study uses the Kinect somatosensory detector launched by Microsoft to develop a stroke upper limb assessment system that does not need to wear any device, combined with Game development toolkit unity. Based on the existing stroke scale: Fugmer upper limb Action scale, the system was designed to assess the feasibility of a formal stroke scale by analyzing the stability and validity of the system.
