Color and Lighting design in interior design are independent to each other in theory and professional practices. It would not be a problem to be independent, unless both are holding controversial theories and practices to each other. This research inquires into the combined effects on respondents, physiological responses to determine which of the two dominate the influences. An experiment is designed to examine light sources with distinct spectral properties, including correlated color temperature of 3000K and 6000K, 150±50 lux illuminance level, and spectral power distribution reflected from painted color walls to human eyes at 1.2-meter height. Heart Rate Variability and Brainwaves Data derived from 22 respondents who are asked to be exposed in warm color, cold color, and white color rooms, are collected and analyzed to test three hypotheses. The following result is elicited: 1. human physiological responsoses are subjected to spectral effects of light beams rather then color or lighting stimulation alone, their theories are insufficient in depicting the joint effects, 2. theCCT index of light beams reflected from colored walls will be altered conspicuously, 3. lightbeams with abundant short wavelengths, whether direct or indirectly entered human pupils, will induce a person’s alertedness and synthetic physical conditions;on the contrary, light beams with abundant longer wavelengths will induce a person’s relaxation and parasynthetic physical conditions. Such a finding have overthrown some of the design theories established by color and lighting design communities.
