In the past, only heterosexuals were able to get married, and traditional culture and the original marriage and family structure were still the framework for heterosexual marriages. This study aims to understand how the daily situations of gay and lesbians affect their attitudes toward entering marriage after the legalization of same-sex marriage in Taiwan. The study used intentional sampling and a snowball approach to find and invite participants to conduct semi-structured interviews with six homosexuals who single, had dated but had not yet entered into marriage, or had entered into marriage with a homosexual, and analyzed them using an abstract ladder method. The results of the analysis revealed that the participants believed that same-sex marriage is a basic human right and that legal protection is necessary for gay people, and that gay people's attitudes toward identity and coming out of the closet have changed after the legalization of same-sex marriage. This study also discusses factors other than the legalization of same-sex marriage that influence attitudes toward coming out and entering marriage, explores the similarities and differences between same-sex marriage and same-sex marriage, and makes suggestions for consultants and counselors, the gay community, and future research directions.
