In chess-like games, a piece to be captured by the opponent is deemed dead but a prisoner in shogi and minishogi. That is, the captured piece becomes an opponent’s piece and can then be placed on the board again called the drop rule. Hence, the rule adds difficulty and interest to minishogi, and results that minishogi is more complicated than chess-like games. Dropping a pawn is the most complex among all piece kinds. This thesis illustrates the rule for dropping a pawn. We design and implement a method by using the bitboard to detect if there exists a uchifuzume.
