ABSTRACT In this thesis, the design of machine tool spindle with computer-aided engineering technology is presented; the finite element model of the spindle is built for the dynamic and static analyzing with ANSYS commercial software. The stress distribution, mode shape, harmonic response and the deformation are investigated to improve the design of the spindle. The criteria of analysis result interpretation are described and different improvements in design are established. The improvement in static and dynamic characteristic of the spindle by design modification is also proved. In the article, the grinder spindle made with the material of SNCM-8 (Ni-Cr-Mo steel alloy) is studied in view of variable for designing the spindle, and the rules of dynamic and static analysis. The discussion of improvement in design has also provided in according to the result of analysis and the practical requirement to enhance the structure strength and stiffness of the grinder spindle.
