Cultural & creative industries become world trends, and are identified by the Taiwan government in 2002 as one of the key national development plans. Among them, Taiwan's ceramics, light and home decorative designs are major indicators. At the same time, it is also important to upgrade the local OEM ceramic industry by integrating its products with cultural creation. In this study, Chinese traditional art and modern product design were combined to create and develop new decorative LED lighting ornaments made of ceramic material. This study analyzed the extensively used botanical art pattern and selected the most famous tangled botany and lotus art patterns from the Ming and Ching dynasties as the main design factor, since the decorative art and craftsmanship developed during the Ming and Ching Dynasty were the best in Chinese history. By using the continuous layout method to treat graphics and words in the digital design process, systematic ornament layout modules can be created to suit current mass production equipments. Also, by market analysis, we can position, direct, and study niche points to help our industries with cultural, creative and high valued LED ceramic ornaments. The aim of this study is to upgrade Taiwan’s OEM industries to become cultural and creative industries, and thereby move away from low cost competition with south-east Asia countries. The other benefit is to create and establish brand name around the world and to carry on the Chinese culture. In addition, traditional botanical art pattern layout modules can be used for ceramic and fabric light ornament industries to provide value-added products in modern ages. Finally, this study is also expected to establish a good model for collaborative work between university research and industry in cultural creative product design and development.
