Since 2001, “the problem-solving approach in counselling” has been widely used by Teacher Chang’s Counselling Service centers in Taiwan. This study was to investigate whether there were differences between “the general structure growth group” and “the problem-solving approach group” in terms of four dimensions including 1)problem structure conceptualization, 2)problem-solving attitude, 3)anticipated assistance and actual acquisition of assistance, along with 4)group emotion. Data are collected in genuine growth group counselling context. Collected data are analysed by independent sample t-test.The findings were listed as follows. Firstly, both problem-solving group and general structural growth group were found significant difference on pre-tests and post-tests regarding problem structure conceptualization. This result indicated a growing rise in these participants’ problem structure conceptualization. Secondly, two groups also showed neither difference between pre-tests and post-tests, nor on post-tests. regarding their problem-solving attitude. Thirdly, two groups showed significant difference between the anticipated assistance and actual acquisition of assistance. All participants involved in the study acquired the assistance that greatly surpassed what they had anticipated. Fourthly, the difference also occurred on post-tests between the two groups. Ancova analysis also indicated that the problem-solving group showed greater group emotion than did the general structural growth group. The results generated by the present study would provide a suggestion for the practice of group Counselling and for the future study.
