A series of the transition metal complexes, {[Cu(L1)1.5(DMF)3][ClO4]2•2DMF}∞, 1, {[Na(L2)2][Hg2Br5]•2DMF}∞, 2, and {[Na(L2)2[Hg2I5]•2DMF]}∞, 3, where L1 = N,N’-bis(3-pyridinyl)-1,4-benzenedicarboxamide; L2 = N,N’-bis-(2-pyrimidinyl)-1,4-benzenedicarboxamide, have been prepared by the reactions of transition metal salts Cu(ClO4)2, HgBr2, and HgI2 with the corresponding ligands L1 and L2. All the complexes have been structurally characterized by X-ray crystallography, confirming that complexes 1 – 3 are coordination polymers. In complex 1, The metal atoms are interlinked through L1 to form a ladder-like coordination polymer. In complex 2 and complex 3, the metal atoms are interlinked through L2 to form (4,4) nets. Complex 2 has Hg---N, N-H---Br, and C-H---Br interactions, while complex 3 has Hg---N, N-H---I, and C-H---I interactions.
