斯托得「福音與社會責任觀」之研究
A Study of John R. W. Stott’s perspective on Evangelism and Social Responsibility
摘要
傳福音是基督徒的重要使命，相較於口傳福音，基督徒對於社會責任常抱持著存疑的猶豫，特別是社會行動，不同的宗派或神學主張亦意見分歧，本論文旨在探討二十世紀在福音派中甚具影響力的牧者斯托得（John R. W. Stott），其對福音與社會責任的整全主張。 斯托得同意福音優先的看法，但卻反對以此詮釋社會責任，使社會責任的論述，陷入與傳福音間孰先孰後的拉扯中，以致福音的雙重任務，在首要性下，社會責任被擱置，或在不可分割的說法下，社會責任被視為附屬，因為這使得社會責任常久以來被忽略、漠視，教會亦缺乏專業理解。斯托得認為教會的不發聲，無異於棄守公共領域，忽略了神的託負，對基督社群而言亦代表著信仰的危機警訊。 斯托得提出福音與社會責任並重的整全福音（the whole gospel）主張，中心思想為雙重聆聽（double listening）－聆聽聖經、聆聽當代世界。其觀點係從社會參與的論戰予以解析，體現社會行動的必要，本論文將梳理其對福音與社會責任間的平衡論述及對基督徒使命的重新詮釋，透過神的國所發揮的實體塑造功能，述明整全福音的社會挑戰及神國群體應發揮的影響力，以期能建構福音的社會涵意及其信仰實踐層面。 這份對斯托得福音與社會責任的研究，將有助於我們在思考當今各項社會議題時，反思基督徒對福音宣講力及行動力的平衡。

Evangelizing is an important mission of Christians. Compared to preaching the gospel, social responsibility is what Christians hesitate about more often — especially social action, on which many denominations or theologies hold diverse viewpoints. This thesis aims to explore Rev. John R. W. Stott's holistic mission on evangelism and social responsibility, which had a significant influence on evangelicals in the 20th century. Stott agrees with the idea of evangelism first, but he opposes the interpretation of social responsibility in the same way, thus putting the argument of social responsibility into a dilemma: which comes first, social responsibility or evangelism? In terms of the double missions of gospel, social responsibility is often laid aside — or in view of inseparability, social responsibility is considered subordinate, which consequently contributes to it being neglected and leads to a lack of professional understanding of it by churches. The silence of the churches, according to Stott, is synonymous with their being withdrawn from the public field. They overlook God's trust. It is also an alarming warning for Christian communities. Stott presents the concept of the whole gospel, highlighting both evangelism and social responsibility. The motif is double listening; listening to the Bible and to the contemporary world as well. He analyzes the disputes over social participation and comprehends the necessity of social action. This thesis will dissect Stott's balanced analysis between evangelism and social responsibility and his reinterpretation of Christian missions. By the concrete formation of God's kingdom, this thesis will demonstrate the social challenges that holistic gospel faces and the influence that God's communities should have in the hope of constructing gospel connotation in society and its fulfillment in faith. Stott’s study on evangelism and social responsibility will contribute to our reflection on whether or not Christians balance preaching the gospel and taking action when we meditate on social issues.
