摘要


在無線隨意網路(Wireless Ad Hoc Network)上使用指向性天線(Directional Antenna)有兩個好處。第一,當我們只用指向性天線傳送和接收所有媒體存取控制層的訊框時,我們可以獲得極大的空間分集增益(Spatial Diversity)。第二,媒體存取控制協定可以被設計成包含一些使節點能更有效率的發現(Discovery)和追蹤其鄰近節點的方法。   這篇論文主要在研究一種使用指向性天線並以輪詢為基礎的媒體存取控制協定(Polling-Based MAC Protocol),它能以一種整合的方式提供前面所提到的兩個好處。以輪詢為基礎的媒體存取控制協定具有以下重要的特性和能力:它僅使用指向性的傳送和接收並且具有發現鄰近節點和以排程(Schedule)為基礎的架構。在這一篇論文中,我們將透過模擬以輪詢為基礎的媒體存取控制協定來瞭解它的性能表現(Throughput)。根據最後模擬的結果,我們可以看出以輪詢為基礎的媒體存取控制協定在效能表現上遠勝過傳統的IEEE 802.11協定。

There are two advantages regarding the use of the directional antennas in wireless ad hoc networks. First, we can simply use the directional antennas to transmit and receive all the MAC layer frames so that the spatial diversity can be fully exploited. Second, some mechanisms can be incorporated into the MAC protocol so that each node can efficiently discover and track its neighbors. This thesis studies a polling-based MAC protocol that works with the directional antennas and can provide the above two advantages in an integrated way. The polling-based MAC protocol has the following important features and capabilities: the directional transmissions and receptions, the neighbor discovery and the scheduling based medium sharing. In this thesis, we will simulate the polling-based MAC protocol to study its performance. According to the simulation results, we found that the polling-based MAC protocol outperforms the traditional IEEE 802.11 protocol in the throughput.
