With the rise of the Internet of Things generation, indoor positioning has become one of key research topics in recent years. With indoor positioning capabilities, many malls, airports, hospitals, and schools develop a variety of smart space services. In this thesis, we propose a smart learning space approach in a university campus. The smart learning space provides context-aware services with the aid of BLE beacon technology. Through four Ws(Who, What, When, Where) as the core of context-aware applications, the proposed smart learning space provides context-aware services according to relevant information of a user, including the location, current time, and learning/teaching activities related to the user. Users in a classroom can use mobile devices to interact with the smart learning service. The teacher in a classroom can easily know the current status and problems in the class without the need of preparing course information in advance. When in the public area of the campus, through the Facebook Graph API of obtaining the social networking data, a user can access related public or personal learning information on a nearby smart screen. For example, from the nearby smart screen, a student in the library can get a list of books or campus-related events which may attract the student. The student can also confirm hold requests or loans of books on the smart screen. In this thesis, we propose a new smart learning space approach based on accurate indoor positioning and context-aware services. The proposed approach recommends the use of mobile devices in classrooms and smart screens in public areas of the campus.
