Taiwan is a growing economy where civil infrastructure and high-tech factories have vigorous development in the construction industry. However, due to its geographical location, Taiwan is often fighting with natural disasters. In consideration of building speed and safety, steel is the most implemented construction material for high-rise buildings, shopping malls, sports venues, and factories. Currently, Taiwan’s steel structure industry prioritizes occupational safety and quality but faces severe labor shortage. Traditional preconstruction plans often differ from the actual construction. Unpredictable reasons, such as climate, environment, and manmade factors can cause delay of project schedule. Small and medium-sized enterprises are currently unable to hire professional managers for effective management. As a result, the business owner must manage multiple construction sites at the same time and carry the heavy responsibility of multiple construction projects. Through discussion and analysis, this study aims to identify the optimal tools for contemporary construction projects by introducing the building information modeling (BMI) to improve project performance as well as to objectively evaluate construction quality and implementation cost.
